New for 2022

PowerPoint Presentations for Lecturers:

The following modules cover different meteorite topics.   They are not intended to be used in a stand-alone fashion, but instead as sources of material that our members can use to organize into their own custom presentations.   The number of individual modules will grow as the Outreach Team completes subsequent ones and the existing modules will be revised when new information becomes available. Please feel free to reply with feedback or make requests regarding additional modules that our membership may find useful, educational or entertaining.

Interesting Meteorite Facts 4-2022

The Interesting Meteorite Facts module, unlike future ones, is unique in that it doesn’t have a specific focus.  Instead, it serves more as a catchall for information that won’t be addressed in subsequent modules, but that might make members’ custom presentations a little more interesting, or that can offer transitions or separations between topics.

To view or download Interesting Meteorite Facts right click on the link below and select “Open Link In New Window”. Note: for the full function of animations the presentation will need to be downloaded.

Meteorite Origins 5-2022

The “Meteorite Origins” module is the first of several that address a specific topic.  This module focuses on how the Asteroid Belt formed, provides an overview describing how asteroids find their way to Earth, and introduces the parent bodies for the four different major types of meteorites: chondrites, stony-irons, irons, and achondrites (more detail on sub-types will be included in subsequent modules).  This module pairs well with “Meteorite Anatomy” which details the characteristics of these four major meteorite types. (Included at the end of this module is a template for adding your own custom slides.)

To view or download “Meteorite Origins” right-click on the link below and select “Open Link In New Window”. Note: for the full function of animations the presentation will need to be downloaded. **Due to several embedded animations this is a large module and cannot be previewed in Google and must be downloaded to view**

Meteorite Anatomy 5-2022

This module covers the basic characteristics of the three major types of meteorites: stone (both chondrites and achondrites), stony iron, and iron.  Mostly macro characteristics are detailed, though chondrule petrology is also briefly addressed.  This module pairs well with “Meteorite Origins” which describes the origins of these major types of meteorites. (Included at the end of this module is a template for adding your own custom slides.)

To view or download “Meteorite Anatomy” right click on link below and select “Open Link In New Window”. Note: for full function of animations the presentation will need to be downloaded.

Index Database 5-2022

Compatible with most spreadsheet and database software this .csv (comma separated variable) file provides a searchable list of the key words in all modules.  Using Excel as an example presenters can enter “achondrite” into the find dialog box (<ctrl>F in Excel). Excel would then scroll to the first entry of that word followed by a sequential list of all modules and corresponding slides within those modules that also contain “achondrite”.  A presenter could then view the indicated slides in each module to decide whether to include any of them within a custom presentation being developed.

To view or download the “Index Database” right click on link below and select “Open Link In New Window”. Note: for full function of animations the presentation will need to be downloaded.
