The Exportation of
Libyan Desert Glass from Egypt
If you have ever passed through the Airport of Cairo, you will have noticed a large display case with archaeological artifacts, prehistoric tools, and other artifacts, and a big sign warning you in blunt, unequivocal language that the exportation of these items was forbidden by law, and that any attempt to circumvent that law would have very serious consequences. I have learned from an absolutely trustworthy source that a few pieces of Libyan Desert Glass were recently placed in that case, and the name was added to the list of prohibited items on the sign. This looks like very bad news for collectors of Libyan Glass since the stocks are dwindling and cannot be replenished.
